Edith Head

For my Final Major Project I was looking into costume design from around the 1930s-1950’s and of course came across ‘Edith Head’ and decided to get this book to find out more about her. The book is called ‘Edith Heads Hollywood’ and it was written by herself and Paddy Caustro.

The book is set out differently to ones I have read before as Edith has passed away the book is obviously wrote about her but has her own words in it as well. I thought this was done fantastically as you have someone basically telling the reader about her life and then Head herself pops in to give her very own first had experiences and opinions on what is been described.

 Throughout the book there are also other peoples input from people whom she had worked with in the past building a great picture of the women to the reader. It really did help build the character as it was wrote by people who actually knew and spent time with her, it felt like you actually knew her yourself after the book.

 The book also included old photographs of Head at work, as well as some of her original designs which were amazing to be able to see.

 As well as finding out so much about Edith Head it was a very good insight to how life actually was in those days before the huge industry that we know of today called Hollywood. The book was definitely an easy read and a great source of research and information.
