Our first project giving was Alice In Wonderland our first task was to read the book and see what ideas started flowing. On this course I am looking at costume and props for stage and screen so for this project our brief is linked which I find a much better idea rather then having to research two or three different themes for different projects. I imagine it will give me the chance to see how things fit together better on a production as the design teams will work closely together.
So, I had my theme it was now to choose a concept, of course like anything else I had far too many ideas, like Alice the horror movie or Alice the Hollywood glamour star. Then I narrowed it down to two main concepts and they were Alice in Vegas or Alice the ballet. So I used the internet as a starting point to collect imagines to see which inspired me most and which sparked off ideas straight away.

After what seemed like a life time trying to see which idea I liked better I finally chose to have my concept ballet after watching a Victoria's Secret fashion show. It put a spin on the general innocent of the ballet and gave it more elements which I found exciting to a plain tutu dress.
The costumes on this catwalk show although are to show case an underwear collection I thought was amazing. There were pieces coming up and off the body giving it greater heights and dimensions this I found greatly exciting. Over the years I have gained more and more skills when it comes to the manufacturing of a garment and feel very confident with it, so I thought it was now time to challenge myself with something new, and this is where Victoria's Secret inspiration comes into it. In the past more of my garments main features have been the cut or the actual construction but I want this one to be all about the embellishments or the manipulation of the fabric and so the research continues into all of the different areas that I could look at or try and experiment with along side with my designs to come up with an idea that is going to stretch my skills and challenge me!!

These are just two simple type of embellishment that I have looked and I will look further into new and different techniques that I could use to help bring my costume and the character in it to life!!
If anyone has any idea that they think would be good for me to try please do leave a comment I'm very much looking to try something new to broaden my skills and knowledge.
I am really looking forward to getting stuck into this project although im not going to lie im slightly nervous for the prop part as this will be this first time that I have done anything like this, but im ready for the challenge and to learn new skills and gain knowledge in areas that I have not before, so bring it on!!!!
